Our research is focused on using the fly Drosophila to study human neurodegenerative disease. We are focused on one of the polyglutamine diseases called Spinocerebellar ataxia type 3, and on Parkinson's disease. Our research is directed toward defining the molecular mechanisms by which the disease genes cause toxicity, how the neurons become dysfunctional, how they degenerate, and ways to interfere with these processes to provide the foundation for therapeutic insight.
